To express an advert that comes with sponsorship, we use a simple XML file. It contains the lines to be put into the text format email, and the HTML code to be put into the HTML from. Each text line is constrained by character size. Each advert HTML code is constrained to be valid XHTML version 1.
The format differs only very slightly between issue and report adverts.

We have a RelaxNG schema for adverts. You can get it as XML or as as text. The specification references the specification of XHTML that you need to get seperately.
