Abstract: This article presents an anthropological study on credit card use in Indonesia. It focuses on cultural and social knots that mutually influence financial knowledge and experience using the concepts of performativity and temporality in relation to the rapid process of financialization. By focusing on the credit card community in Indonesia, this article explains how they strategize their financial algorithms in the credit card management cycle. This article contributes to anthropological research on the unequal impact of credit card use by exploring the complex relationship between access to financial and ethical justice, variations in cultural contexts, and social hierarchies. The research examines how financial temporality is created through material and institutional practices. The findings presented in this article underscore the importance of considering credit card activities within a broader framework of financialization and complex social dynamics in contemporary Indonesia and other similar contexts. This study contributes to theoretical discussions on the social and cultural elements of financialization by providing an in-depth and specific narrative analysis of credit and debt.

Abstract: The digital economy has bridged the gap between countries, making transaction activities more convenient. The trend of cross-border e-commerce has exploded in many countries, consumers can now easily access millions of products from various vendors worldwide by simply visiting e-commerce sites. This creates opportunities for Vietnamese consumers to have easier access to US goods, a country with a very high level of industry, industrialization and development. The objective of this study was to examine the determinants that influence the socio-psychological factors on cross-border purchasing behavior in Vietnam. This article is based on the realistic group conflict theory, social identity theory, and cognitive dissonance theory, and proposes a conceptual framework with 9 components and 13 research hypotheses. The analysis was conducted using a quantitative descriptive analysis, measuring variable dimensions on a questionnaire with a seven-point Likert scale, and utilizing partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses. The research results, based on a survey of 1, 041 consumers in Vietnam, show that there are five key factors that significantly impact the product judgments of consumers in Vietnam. These factors include consumer affinity, consumer cosmopolitanism, consumer ethnocentrism, price competitiveness, and product uniqueness. Additionally, there are four factors that play a crucial role in determining the level of trust that Vietnamese consumers have in a product. These factors are product judgments, consumer affinity, consumer cosmopolitanism, and consumer ethnocentrism. Finally, there are two factors (consumer trust and product judgments) that greatly influence the cross-border purchasing behavior of Vietnamese consumers. This understanding can then be used to develop marketing policies that improve the competitiveness of domestic enterprises compared to imported products.

Abstract: This study examines the moral and value-based framing of credit cards as an important tool of Indonesian financial perceptions and practices. By exploring the concept of ‘moral alchemy’, the transformation of cultural values and ethical perspectives on debt and credit is embodied and materialized in credit cards. Using a dynamic mix of multisite ethnography and netnography, I examine how credit card communities in Indonesia are reshaping the use of credit cards from a symbol of risky privileges to tools for financial empowerment. This research combines three areas of interest: Cultural economics, sociocultural perspectives on ethics, and value theory to provide a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon. My findings show how consumers who are part of the largest community of credit card users in Indonesia actively reshape their moral beliefs to adapt to new financial practices, illustrating the complex interaction between global financial products and local cultural contexts. Such communities represent more than just the adoption of new financial instruments. They also represent a fundamental shift in how consumers and businesses interact with modern financial instruments. This research makes a valuable contribution to the growing literature on financial and economic practices based on socio-cultural perspectives and offers interesting insights into how innovative financial products are adopted and reinterpreted based on moral preferences and values that enable financial returns.

Abstract: INFLUENCE OF CONSUMER BENEFITS AND CONSUMER PSYCHOLOGY ON THE CROSS-BORDER SHOPPING BEHAVIOR VIA E-COMMERCIAL PLATFORMS The objective of this study is to investigate the factors that influence the cross-border purchasing behavior of Vietnamese consumers, specifically focusing on consumer benefits and psychology. The study is based on the theoretical foundations of social identity, SOR theory, and related research. A proposed research model with 9 component concepts and 9 research hypotheses has been developed. The PLS-SEM method was used to test these hypotheses, using data collected from questionnaires that utilized a 7-point Likert scale. The survey was conducted among 1, 017 consumers from various provinces and cities across Vietnam. The results indicate that factors such as consumer ethnocentrism, product uniqueness, price competitiveness, consumer cosmopolitanism impact on product judgments and cross-border purchasing behavior. The study also provides practical managerial implications for domestic manufacturers and cross-border distributors or suppliers, helping them better understand the mindset of cross-border shoppers and the factors that motivate consumers to shop across national borders. Vietnamese: Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu này là điều tra các nhân tố lợi ích và tâm lý tiêu dùng ảnh hưởng đến hành vi mua hàng xuyên biên giới của người tiêu dùng Việt Nam. Abstract: Technology has an important role to play in advancing sustainable tourism destinations. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of technology on tourism marketing during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia which can be used as material for decisions by tourism practitioners and is useful for researchers in the tourism sector. This research was conducted using a systematic literature review (SLR) of 2 reference articles from Scopus. The results show no antecedents from tourism marketing that were studied during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, there is a positive influence of technology on tourism marketing during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are several consequences of technology adoption in tourism marketing: trust, visitors' interest, and tourist behavior. However, this research still has limitations on the reference sources used (only Scopus), so it is recommended to add a database for future researchers and other research problem formulations.

Abstract: This research aims to provide empirical evidence regarding thin capitalisation, transfer pricing, and tax avoidance, with political connections serving as moderating variables. The research employs a purposive sampling technique, resulting in a sample of 31 mining companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2013 to 2022. The technique used for hypothesis testing is panel data analysis through the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach. The results of this research indicate that thin capitalisation and transfer pricing have a significant effect on tax avoidance. Additionally, this research reveals that the role of political connections can strengthen the impact of transfer pricing on tax avoidance but does not demonstrate that political connections can reinforce the effect of thin capitalisation on tax avoidance. The findings of this research are expected to serve as a basis for government considerations in establishing tax-related regulations. This study recommends that future research utilise different research subjects for comparison, add other independent variables outside the current model that may influence tax avoidance, and apply alternative tax avoidance measures, such as book-tax differences and tax shelters.

Abstract: Patient safety incident (PSI) reporting is essential to identify underlying problems and improve safety, but PSI reporting in Indonesian hospitals is still low. This study examines factors that contribute to PSI reports. It employed a cross-sectional design and analyzed data from Indonesia's 2019 Health Facilities Research. Methods: According to the criteria, the sample consisted of 462 hospitals. We evaluate the data using the chi-square test. The independent variables were documents, including strategic plans and hospital bylaws; activities included implementing a quality control system, monitoring and evaluation, internal audits, service evaluation and quality control, and periodic meetings. Results: Even though most hospitals already have documents and carry out activities, reports regarding PSI are still lacking in the surveyed hospitals, with half not having any. In Indonesian hospitals, all variables were significantly associated with PSI reports. Hospitals with these documents and management activities, like strategic plans, internal audits, or evaluations, have more PSI reports. Conclusion: The number of PSI reports has increased due to changes in reporting culture, which may indicate a safer culture rather than necessarily an increasing risk. Adopt a comprehensive, data-driven strategy, concentrating on incident reporting and detection. Hospital management must sustainably monitor, assess, and evaluate to encourage PSI reporting.

Abstract: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows play a crucial role in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region's economic growth, as they contribute capital, technology, managerial expertise, and enhance economic integration among member states. However, FDI distribution across ASEAN countries is uneven, with larger and more open markets receiving a larger share, while smaller or less developed countries attract less investment. This research aims to identify the determinants of FDI inflows in the ASEAN-10 region from 2010 to 2021. A quantitative approach is employed, utilizing panel data regression analysis. The models tested include the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM), with the FEM selected as the most appropriate. The results of the partial test reveal that economic growth and regulatory quality positively influence FDI inflows in ASEAN-10, while the Voice and Accountability indicator has a negative effect. Conversely, political stability, government effectiveness, rule of law, and control of corruption do not significantly impact FDI inflows. Overall, these variables account for approximately 87.20% of the variance in FDI flows in the region. The findings suggest that ASEAN countries should formulate more effective policies to attract FDI, particularly by implementing sound economic strategies, enhancing institutional quality, improving the investment climate, and boosting global competitiveness.

Abstract: A credit card is a symbol of different types of consumer credit. Their use to satisfy consumer needs can trigger impulsive spending, often leading to addiction and even debt bondage. This study follows the activities of a credit card community in Indonesia and includes ethnographic fragments in which credit cards are not used for consumptive purposes but rather as productive business capital. Temporality, as a concept in the anthropological study of debt and credit, is used as a research framework as well as a strategy to comprehensively analyse the credit card algorithm from a cultural perspective, including the characteristics and functions of credit cards that are reflected in the decision-making of community members throughout the life cycle of the credit card, from application to business use, which enables this financial facility to provide benefits and maintain trust.

Abstract: This study analyzes the relationship between Retained Earnings to Total Equity (RE/TE), Return On Assets (ROA), and inflation to Dividend Payout Ratio in conventional banks during the 2020 period. The author uses secondary data from 40 conventional banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for 2020 in this study. The analysis method used is multiple linear regression to test the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The results showed that RE/TE and ROA had a positive and significant influence on the Dividend Payout Ratio, while inflation had a negative but not significant influence. These findings indicate that a bank's internal financial performance, such as profitability, is more important in determining dividend policy than external factors such as inflation during the period. This research contributes to the understanding of the factors influencing dividend policy in the banking sector, as well as practical implications for bank management and investors in formulating effective dividend and investment strategies.

Abstract: In recent years, there has been a growing focus on co-creation in higher education. However, the number of studies specifically examining the co-creation process in the context of higher education in Vietnam remains limited. Consequently, research is needed to investigate co-creation in education, particularly in higher education. This article aims to (1) explore people's understanding of co-creation and (2) identify the values that lecturers and students at University of Hai Duong can gain from co-creation activities. The study applies the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practice (KAP) theory to better understand the co-creation process, drawing on interviews with 15 lecturers and 35 students. Through these interviews, the study examines how participants perceive, engage in, and experience the outcomes of co-creation. To validate the preliminary theoretical framework, the study is grounded in the principles of Service-Dominant Logic (S-D Logic) theory, providing a solid foundation for the research. The results indicate that most interviewees actively participate in co-creation activities, even though the concept has not gained much attention in the community. Moreover, co-creation activities yield both positive and negative outcomes, with negative experiences being relatively rare. This study advances previous research by exploring the challenges that affect lecturers and students when collaborating to create value.

Abstract: How can dissatisfied parties adjust the terms of international cooperation in asymmetric agreements? While powerful states can often effectively demand renegotiation, others may struggle to convince their partners to redistribute the gains from cooperation. Strategic exit, whereby a dissatisfied state conducts unilateral exit from an agreement to initiate new negotiations, may become an attractive option in such situations. This paper investigates the prevalence of strategic exit in the international investment treaty regime, where backlash against investment dispute settlement has led some governments to exit from their bilateral investment treaties. I present evidence from two theory-building case studies of investment treaty terminations and renegotiations by Ecuador and Indonesia, including elite interviews with key policymakers. I show that while exit has successfully led to some new negotiations, dissatisfied governments have been unlikely to exit treaties only for the purposes of catalyzing reform. Rather, exit becomes attractive when domestic political benefits mitigate the international reputational costs of exit. The strategic benefit of terminations for catalyzing new negotiations, although not necessarily sought after by the withdrawing state, more likely emerges as a secondary benefit of exit. The theoretical insights from the investment treaty regime can also inform renegotiation dynamics in other international regimes.

Abstract: VC investment has undergone a substantial transition, particularly in emerging countries, where there is a growing entrepreneurial culture. Southeast Asia (SEA) has emerged as an image of trust due to its remarkable accomplishments in venture capital funding. Notwithstanding, the VC success rate is quite low, with up to 75 percent of venture-backed businesses failing to return cash to their investors and 30 to 40 percent of those 75 percent liquidating their assets, resulting in their investors losing their entire investment (Ghosh, 2012). In light of this context, this study sets out to investigate the behavior of venture capital firms in Southeast Asia and the complex decision-making processes involved. This research aims to enhance the success rate of VC firms and contribute to the advancement of VC literature by precisely identifying the relevant parameter. This study seeks to analyze the complex landscape of venture capital activities in a highly dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem, using the complete framework created by Gompers et al. (2023). A case study, a widely recognized method in exploratory research, is used as the primary methodology to reveal novel themes and insights obtained from respondents in venture capital firms. Using a semi-structured interview, this study implies that VC fund structure and strategy, start-up screening criteria, start-up valuation, exit, and risk management have a significant effect on determining SEA VC firm investment decisions. This study is one of the first efforts to utilize Gompers et al.'s (2023) framework in the specific setting of Southeast Asia. This study contributes to the current research on venture capital decision-making by providing innovative measurement parameters, with a particular emphasis on the notion of "runway." These features, which relate to a startup's expenditure rate and its long-term viability offer a broader understanding of the financial factors that impact investments made by SEA VC companies.

Abstract: The Lao government has implemented various policies focused on the agricultural sector, particularly commercial crop production, as an effort to overcome economic weakening. Those policies have also been designed to reduce malnutrition and poverty. The current fast growth and expansion of commercial crop production have proven to trigger poverty alleviation in Laos. However, this condition led to the to the attenuation of farming communities, which accounted for 75% of the total population in Laos, raising the indebtedness number of farmer families, increasing the vulnerability of the communities, and sharpening disparities among producers. Recently, besides the increase in climate change influence, agricultural practices in Laos have also faced several economic risks. These economic risks include the intermittent nature of local market monopolies, fluctuation, and price games along the agricultural value chains, and instability of production contract implementation. Since 2014, the Lao government has evaluated the consequences of these agricultural practices based on the exploitation of natural resources and the environment. The Eco-Friendly Intensification and Climate-Resilient Agricultural Systems (EFICAS) project was funded and managed by Centre de Cooperation International en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (France International Cooperation Center for Agronomy Research Development, CIRAD) and the European Union Global Climate Change Alliance (EU-GCCA) during 2014-2018. CIRAD partnered with (Department of Agricultural Land Management, DALAM) under Laos Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) performed EFICAS together. This project aimed to improve Northern upland community livelihoods, strengthening food security, resilience to climate change, introducing innovative methods, and new intervention approaches to support farmers’ adoption of climate-smart systems based on sustainable agriculture.

Abstract: This research explores how ingredient costs and efficiency ratios affect the sustainability of small coffee businesses in Battambang, Cambodia. By examining ingredient usage patterns, cost impacts, and economic efficiency, the study aims to find strategies to improve financial sustainability. Data were gathered from 80 coffee shop owners through surveys and interviews. Regression analysis was used to investigate the relationship between various cost factors and coffee income. The results show that ingredient costs, equipment costs, and operational expenses significantly affect coffee income. Costs for coffee beans, ice, plastic items, and straws positively impact income, while the cost of ice buckets has a negative effect. Additionally, the price of coffee sold is crucial for revenue generation. The study concludes that by optimizing ingredient use, managing costs efficiently, and implementing strategic pricing, small coffee businesses in Battambang can improve their financial sustainability and support the local economy.

Abstract: This study combines pre-COVID-19 household surveys with 2020 macro data to simulate changes in household economic welfare and poverty rates through job losses, labor income changes, and non-labor (remittance) income changes during 2020 in Brazil, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, South Africa, and Türkiye. It first presents an in-depth analysis of employment elasticities projections—a critical input in microsimulations—for 15 developing countries. In 11 of the 15 countries, employment estimates for 2020 based on elasticities were within 5 percent of the actual employment level, but in four countries, where the labor markets were more disrupted by the pandemic, the projections considerably underestimated job losses due to the crisis. The study then presents the simulation results for the five countries, which show declines in per capita household income or consumption across the distribution, a decline in the middle class, and increased poverty, but no other clear pattern of impacts across the different quintiles. Finally, data from Brazil indicate that the simulation underestimated the magnitude of the shock throughout the distribution, especially for the wealthy, because it underestimated declines in earnings.

Abstract: This study aims to reveal the determinants of profit quality based on governance factors. Specifically, the proposed factors are institutional possession (IP), supervisory board size (SBS), and an external reputable auditor. Besides, this study intends to examine the IP to moderate the relationship between SBS and profit quality. By employing 12 agricultural companies in the Indonesian capital market for ten years, from 2013 to 2022, this study obtains 120 observations and analyzes the data by regression model with polling data. After that, this study demonstrates that IP, the supervisory board size, and reputable external auditor quality positively affect profit quality. The negative interaction effect between IP and supervisory board size (IP*SBS) on profit quality is available: The smaller the SBS, the higher the profit quality, and this tendency happens when institutional possession decreases. In other words, the IP and SBS have substitution roles to crate profit quality.

Abstract: This case study, a collaborative investigation into the self-assessment of student teachers' self-directed learning in the Battambang Teacher Education College (BTEC) teacher education program, provides valuable insights. The study employs both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Data was collected through surveys and open-ended questions with 187 BTEC student teachers. The findings revealed that student teachers actively engaged in reflective self-assessment practices, enabling them to identify improvement areas and develop personalized learning strategies. However, limited time, lack of mentorship, and inadequate institutional support could have helped their ability to fully direct their learning. The study provides practical recommendations to BTEC program administrators on enhancing the support and resources offered to student teachers, such as increasing mentorship opportunities and improving institutional support, to promote their autonomous learning and professional development. These recommendations are designed to be actionable and can be implemented to improve the BTEC teacher education program. The collaborative research contributes to the ongoing efforts to improve teacher education and equip future educators to meet the evolving demands of the modern classroom, making the audience feel included and part of the solution.

Abstract: As the global economic environment becomes increasingly unstable, enhancing financial flexibility to cope with risks has become the consensus of many companies. At the same time, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance may be one of the effective ways. We studied the impact of a firm's ESG performance on its financial flexibility with a sample of companies listed on the Hong Kong stock market from 2018 to 2022. The empirical results show that good environmental, social and governance performance can significantly improve a firm's financial flexibility. In addition, this paper also finds that the influence of ESG performance on financial flexibility is weak for state-owned enterprises due to the influence of governance structure and market characteristics. Abstract: This paper explores the legal frameworks and practical challenges associated with immigration travel documents, including passports, visas, and emergency travel certificates. These documents play a critical role in facilitating international mobility while upholding national security and compliance with immigration laws. The study employs a normative-empirical approach to examine the issuance, use, and management of travel documents in the context of Indonesian immigration regulations and international standards such as the 1951 Refugee Convention and ICAO guidelines. Key findings reveal significant administrative barriers, legal inconsistencies, and human rights concerns, particularly for vulnerable groups like refugees and stateless individuals. The paper concludes with recommendations to enhance global collaboration, streamline administrative processes, and integrate advanced technologies for more effective travel document management.
