Abstract: | Cultural tourism is one of the leading growing segments of the tourism industry. Many tourists who visit heritage sites seek a value-added and authentic experience, when compared with the traditional products or mass destinations. Considering the importance of tourist`s satisfaction in what regards the revisit intentions and word-of-mouth referrals, which in turn influence the economic development of the tourist destination, this study attempts to investigate the relationship between cultural/heritage destination attributes and tourist`s satisfaction. The study area for this paper is the city of Guimarães, in the northwest of Portugal. This city is a place of strong symbolic and cultural significance and was deemed a world heritage site (UNESCO) in the year 2001. In 2012, Guimarães was one of the cities that hosted the European Capital of Culture (ECOC). All this enhanced its tourism potential and increased the amounts of visitors. The methodology consists of quantitative research based on a self-administered survey applied to tourists who visited Guimarães in the first half of 2015. Based upon the empirical results of this study, several recommendations can be made to increase tourists’ satisfaction vis-à-vis to Guimarães, regarding tourists’ needs, attributes valorization and cultural/heritage sustainability. |

Abstract: | This paper is aimed at grounding of applicability of social network analysis to historical sociology of literature. In modern studies in cultural sociology, the scholars’ attention is paid mostly not to social networks that connect authors, editors, translators, and readers, but to the communication channels or the networks for texts’ widespread – in other words, to the phenomena, resembling the social media on the Internet. In our opinion, communication here is only particular case in the wide range of social interactions in literary communities. Study of these communities from the viewpoint of social network analysis allows to discern the new aspects of literary works’ production and reception, and to shed new light on the well-known episodes of literary history. The subject of the case study in this paper is the quick transformation of the social ties between the Soviet children’s writers, critics, and literary institutions in 1954-57. This transformation led to the total reshaping of landscape of the Soviet children’s literature. This case study gives ground for consideration the deeper principles that regulated networking and institutional dynamics of the late-Soviet culture, as well as the specific features of the Soviet cultural networks if comparing them with the samples discussed in English-language sociological scholarship. |

Abstract: | The study of competitive balance in sports has received considerable attention in the academic literature, mainly as a consequence of the effect that it could have on the interest of society in the competitions analyzed. However, most of the studies have focused on the total competitive balance, without taking into account the methodological importance of decomposing it. This paper analyzes competitive balance in the Spanish, English, Italian and German football leagues between 1975 and 2016, and the internal dynamics behind the changes experienced. Our results show a considerable decrease in the total competitive balance in recent decades, although the dynamics behind the increases in inequality are different in the four leagues. Focusing on Rawlsian principles, our analysis shows that the Spanish competition is the only league in which the promoted teams do not have a higher probability of being relegated, and therefore, the competition in which incumbent teams suffer lower entry barriers and have higher chances of survival. |

Abstract: | In this working paper, compiled on the basis of the research results of the staff of Oriental Studies Laboratory of SASH (School of Advanced Studies in the Humanities) for 2016, two cases are considered, one way or another related to the functioning of the geographical space as a culture-forming factor. The first of the investigated situations is the question of the status of the so-called. "Northern Peak" in Quyang - is associated with the use of so-called. "Sacred geography" as an argument for political struggle, when the specific use of certain geographical points in the sacred and religious purposes of certain geographical points has a pronounced political significance and is considered by the opposing sides as a conscious adherence or, conversely, a conscious violation of the natural order of things. Based on the study of the history of the functioning of the Northern Peak and the analysis of sources associated with it (primarily the polemical treatises of the outstanding philologist and political opposition of the 17th century, Gu Yan), it is shown how great the significance of the "geographical factor" in the cultural and political life of such a civilization , Like the Chinese. The second case is the use of the geography of space already at an individual level, as a kind of system of space-time coordinates that determine the stages of a person's spiritual life; This technique is more characteristic for near-than to the Far Eastern civilization, and is investigated within the framework of this preprint on the basis of the classical Sufi monument "Remembrance of Friends of God." It is shown that for the Middle Eastern civilization (at least in its Iranian "derivation") geographical markers function simultaneously as chronological, reflecting the different stages of the life path, the formation and development of the hero. A comparative analysis of both "cases" shows that for Chinese civilization, geographical markers primarily have the function of retaining stability and the immutability of society, while for the Muslim-Iranian civilization they are more connected with the idea of ??internal spiritual development at the personal level. |

Abstract: | The paper provides a review of the views on the nature of language and literature in the writings of philosophers, orators and historians of the 5th century BC: the Sophists, Democritus and Herodotus. An attempt has been made to prove that many of the theoretical positions expressed by these authors are both aesthetic, philosophical, religious and socio-political are originally based on comments on poetic (primarily Homeric) texts. At the same time, the main task of the paper was to demonstrate the internal consistency of the text and the sequence of the author's arguments. In particular, it turns out that the views of Democritus on the relationship between the soul and the mind can be based on the unknown reading of one Homeric line, and the concept of "law" in the "History" of Herodotus - on his original interpretation of Pindar's ode. |
