Abstract: The present study seeks to make a comparative study of the opportunities & threats of Turkish & Russian economic projects in Central Asia for Iran. Therefore, using the content analysis method & the theme matrix type by performing indirect observation (analysis of texts), research data are collected as a purposeful sampling method from existing texts & through thematic coding, themes, opportunities & project threats. The economic relations of Russia & Turkey in Central Asia were identified for Iran & finally compared & analyzed in terms of commonalities & differences. Findings showed that the common denominator of Turkish & Russian economic plans in Central Asia for Iran in terms of opportunity is to increase Iran's geopolitical importance & expand Iran's relations with countries involved in these economic plans. In addition, the difference between Russian & Turkish economic plans in Central Asia for Iran in terms of threat, having negative political & economic consequences due to the implementation of Russian economic plans, inconsistency of Iran & Turkey development policies in Central Asia & weakening Iran's position due to Turkey is pursuing Occidentalism policies in the region. In order to validate the qualitative findings, the audit method & the formation of a focal group have been used for its reliability & the reproducibility as well as the transferability or generalizability.

Abstract: Almost three years into the economic crisis, Lebanon shows no sign of recovery. The sharp decline in economic activity, coupled with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and rising inflation, has pushed thousands of Lebanese households into poverty and unemployment. In addition to the rising poverty, the heavily indebted country that has long been struggling with structural macroeconomic anomalies and persistent political instability is now haunted by the sinister memories of the “great famine.” Concerns about food and nutrition insecurity are intensifying at both the national and sub-national levels as the main food security indicators started to follow an alarming trajectory. Thus, there is a pressing need for government to prioritize food security and take immediate actions to prevent hunger and malnutrition. Examining the changing trends in the four main food security pillars, this brief provides several actionable policy recommendations that are urgently needed to strengthen food security in the short and medium-term, at both the national and household levels, recognizing the need for a more comprehensive food security plan that addresses food and nutrition security in its totality.

Abstract: This report presents preliminary findings from the field surveys conducted as part of the project led by AUB and funded by the National Endowment for Democracy: “Advancing Evidence-Based Policy in Crisis Management.” The project aims to monitor the impact of the multi-dimensional crises Lebanon is facing, on multiple economic sectors, and subsequently advance evidence-based policy reforms that respond to citizens’ priorities. For this purpose, the assessment carried out had two main objectives: (i) gathering information about the socio-economic impacts of the crisis, and (ii) data on coping mechanisms. This preliminary report will be followed by a more detailed final report containing analysis of qualitative and quantitative data collected through surveys and interviews. Studies have found that collecting more information (qualitative and quantitative) on households’ vulnerability to poverty could help inform policy. The final report will present a more comprehensive analysis and make some policy recommendations.

Abstract: This study dealt with the importance of foreign direct investment in Algeria and its impact on its trade balance during the time period of 2003-2018 using the ARDL model. The study concluded that foreign direct investment, gross domestic product and exchange rate have a positive impact on trade balance, and that economic openness has a negative impact on trade balance. Hence, the study recommends diversifying exports by attracting foreign direct investment in the non-oil sectors in order to improve national economy.

Abstract: The Arabian Peninsula witnessed a prosperous economic activity during antiquity, considering that economic exchange was the backbone of human life. This research aims to present an analytical study on the economic relations between the regions of the Arabian Peninsula in the light of the Marxist theory that supports the decisive role of the economic factor in history, especially since the regions of the Arabian Peninsula are rich in multiple products, which led to the diversity of aspects of economic activity "agricultural, animal and industrial". In turn, it was reflected in the internal economic relations between the regions of the Arabian Peninsula through the routes and cities of the trade caravans. The external interventions (Ptolemaic and Roman) negatively affected the internal relations between the south and north of the Arabian Peninsula. The economic aspect was the basis on which the relations between the south and north of the Arabian Peninsula were built, and the economic theory of Karl Marx was applied to it, as economic cooperation contributed to its development and growth, and also caused its transformation or end.

Abstract: Our study highlights the importance of the fiscal theory of price level, showing the role of FTPL in the interaction and coordination between monetary-fiscal policies under different economic regimes (ricardian and non-ricardian). Depending on analytic methodology, the main results show that the economics regime is an important determinant of the theory of price level and the coordination way between policies. Besides, in Algeria, it is inevitable to choose FTPL according to its economic capabilities.
